Abdominal Fitness Equipment
Abdominal fitness equipment - general
overlook
These days people are getting
increasingly health conscious and just about everybody knows
the importance of having toned abs. Having a flat stomach does
not only improve your physical appearance, it also goes a long
way towards good health. The abdominal muscles are of prime
importance and affect a person’s mobility. Strengthening the
abdominal muscles results in improved posture and it also helps
prevent backaches. If you visited your doctor complaining of
lower back pain, there are very high odds that he would
advice you to do abdominal
exercises which would help decrease the stress of the
spinal nerves in the vertebrae.
You could achieve a perfect six-pack abs by doing good
old-fashioned sit ups. This is one exercise you could do
anytime, anywhere. You do not need to lug any heavy equipment
around or need any specially designated space. All you need to
do sit ups is a towel and enough space to fit it on the
floor.
A fair amount of boredom could set in after having done set
after set of sit-ups. For a change of scene you may want to try
out the various exercise equipment that is available especially
for strengthening the abdominals. You could either buy one of
them and set it up at home or you could enroll at one of the
better gyms that have all the latest equipment for you to
exercise on.
There are various kinds of equipment available for
exercising the abdominal muscles. The popular Roman Chair,
though not an abs machine in the strict sense of the word, is
still very effective at exercising the abs. Most gyms will have
a Roman chair installed, as it is very popular with anybody
looking to get rid of their love handles and tone their abs. A
Roman Chair is a rather tall piece of equipment and consists of
two fixed, parallel arms that are non-movable. It has a
straight back, which is padded but the name is rather
misleading as there is no facility for sitting.
For best results when using the Roman Chair, your forearms
should be placed flat resting on each armrest and your back
should rest firmly against the padding. The Roman Chair can be
adjusted so that your legs do not touch the floor when you rest
your arms against the armrest. They should be dangling at least
a few inches from the floor. Using your abdominal muscles,
bring your knees slowly towards your chest as much as you
possibly can and hold for a couple of slow counts. Very slowly
extend and bring legs back to the starting position. This was
the second most popular abdominal exercise in a survey
conducted by the San Diego State University to rank top
abdominal equipment and exercises.
Another effective abdominal exercise equipment is the balance
ball and it is rather inexpensive too. It can be used to work
various parts of the body but is especially good for exercising
the abs. The balance ball is true to its name – it is a ball
that you balance on while exercising. It is very easy to use,
even for a beginner. Starter videos are available that show
beginners the right poses and the right moves to make while
exercising the different parts of the body. While exercising
the abdominal muscles, you keep your balance on the ball while
contracting the abdominal muscles. This contraction of the
abdominal muscles is what helps the muscles build strength and
get more defined.
A rowing machine is more suited for the advanced abdominal
exercises. There are different kinds of rowing machines
available in a wide range of prices.
You could get a basic rowing machine or a highly advanced
one, but they all work on the same principle. Using a rowing
machine works out not only the abs but also the forearms,
triceps and biceps at the same time by simulating the real act
of rowing a boat. While rowing you use your arms to pull and
your legs to push and you contract your abdominals with each
action.
The Red is an innovative ab machine that has been newly
introduced. It consists of a stool that swivels and has two arm
handles at the side. Holding on to the handles, you use your
abdominal muscles to swivel your lower body from one side to
the other, while keeping the upper body in a fixed position.
Working out on the red for about 30 minutes to an hour at least
thrice a week promises to give you the abs you are looking for.
The arms also benefit from this exercise as they exert enough
pressure in keeping you stationary.
Other rally good ab machines available are the terrastar torso
trainer, the bosu balance trainer, the Yukon ab crunch machine
and the ab lounger. Choosing the right one for you is not very
difficult as all the information you need is available on the
Internet.
